Coach's Qualifications
- Tess Galati brings a doctoral degree in language and literature, post-doctoral work in psychology, and twenty years of experience in business to the coaching process. She is the writer of articles, books, and training programs that have established her reputation as an expert in organizational communications. Her approach is based on cognitive structuring and the psychology of creativity rather than rules and principles.
Approach and Logistics
- Coaching begins with a thorough assessment questionnaire, intake interview, and analysis of client's compositions.
- The coach and client cooperate to design the coaching relationship, including criteria for assessing progress toward goals identified by the client.
- One-half to one hour coaching sessions by telephone or face to face; scheduled weekly or bi-weekly.

Assessment and Intake
- The initial assessment includes Galati's review of twenty-five pages of the client's writing as well as analysis of a specific proprietary assessment instrument. An intake meeting of approximately one and one-half hours follows. After reviewing the client's writing and assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the writing process, the client and coach outline a direction for proceeding, set goals, prioritize tasks, commit to a specific coaching period, and schedule subsequent meetings.
Coaching Sessions and Assignments
- The direction and duration of coaching depend upon the client's goals and needs. The coach draws on her expertise as language specialist, counselor, and instructor to facilitate the client's progress in such areas as logical development, structural organization, grammar improvement, process awareness, and stress reduction. Coaching may include assignments and readings relating to the client's needs and ongoing practice in composing messages.
